I always use this website when I visit Boston. It's a great guide to the city.

When I was working in eastern Massachusetts years ago, one of the best restaurants I ever found in Boston was the Olde Union Oysterhouse! Been in business since pre-revolution times. Right on the corner with the "Boston Stone", the point where distances to/from Boston were measured, where the Marquis de Lafayette taught French lessons, where Daniel Webster used to "orate", having a "large tumbler of brandy with each half-dozen oysters" and seldom having less than six half-dozen oysters! No wonder he could talk!! And the food is good, too! Service on multiple floors, plus -- my personal favorite! -- the original old horseshoe-shaped mahogany bar! Hope this helps!!! GREAT place to visit!!!

There is a big difference between a great restaurant and an authentic Boston institution in my book.
While the Union Oyster House is a great visit, it does not have the finest food in Boston.
Here are some of my favorites:
All-Time Favorite:
L'Espalier, 30 Gloucester St, Boston, MA 02115 · 617-262-3023 -- My #1 favorite is the list's #1. French food in an 1800s townhouse. If money is no object and you want a luxurious dinner, make a reservation well in advance!

Italian -- Pomodoro's, 319 Hanover St · Boston · 617-367-4348 -- Though it's #1 on my list, it doesn't make thetop 10.

Seafood -- B&G Oysters, 550 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02118 · 617-423-0550 - Though it's #1 on my list, it's number 9 on the top 10 seafoods list.

Steakhouses -- Grill 23 and Bar, 161 Berkeley St, Boston, MA 02116 · 617-542-2255. This time my #1 steakhouse is #2 on the top 10.
American Continental -- Seasons, 24 North St, Millennium Bostonian Hotel, Boston, MA 02109 · 617-523-4119. Okay my #1 is their #7.

P.S. Pizza to die for!
Pizzeria Regina, 11 Thacher St, Boston, MA 02113 · 617-227-0765 -- The original ovens and seasoned pans at this 70-year-old institution in the heart of the North End, give the original Regina's Pizzeria a flavor that simply cannot be duplicated. When you are ready to kick back in casual clothes and simply relax, head here.
