Unfortunately not wanting something to be true doesn't make it so. Yes, the DeFeo murders were true. The Lutz family bought the house at a good price but was still far more than they could afford. They have later said they made the rest of it up.

Wow! I used to believe it until the man convicted of those crimes and his lawyer admitted that they had made up the entire story to get an insanity plea.
But it was such a good story that it went to press and then to Hollywood.

I'm not sure if THAT story is true although it does have truth i it. I do believe what happened can happen anywhere. It does make life a little more intresting.
