I'm an 18 year old male living in NC, I really have no idea what i want to do as a profession, I'm going to go to a 2 year college with a possibility of transferring to a university. What should I go for, what makes the most money, and what has the best job security?

1) What should I go for? That really depends on what sort of things you like to learn about. You can visit an educational counselor at your local community college or high school and they can provide you with an assessment test that might help identify your highest interests.

If you plan on going to a senior college (4-year) then you need to make sure that the classes you take at the community college are in the transfer program and not in the vocational program. Some of the best educational value is in the vocational program though - so weigh carefully what you want to study. Many good careers have an entry level with a community college education.

2) what makes the most money? The 10 top paying jobs in the United States are medical doctors of varying specialty. Attorneys are in the top 20 or so as well. If "the most money" is your only objective - those are it. Generally though, it's not a good idea to pick a career based on the most money. You should pick something you love and something you can do well in. You can change your mind later on too - it's not 1930, you're not stuck with one career your whole life. ☺

3) what has the best job security? There is no assurance of job security any longer. Especially in the southern states where you have 'employment at will' and 'right to work' conditions. That said, some professions seem to always need more people. It seems to me that if you have the proper credentials then you can go out today and have a decently paying job by this afternoon as:

* Truck driver; especially class A commercial with haz mat and tanks

* School teacher; especially in science or math but really in just about any area.

* Nurse; ASN, BSN, and MSN nurses are in high demand everywhere.

None of those are "the most money" but every one is well above the average pay in most communities.

Try out this great website from the government. It pretty much chronicles every major job out there in the United States, from what their median earnings are, to what the prospective outlook is for the next ten years, to what the typical day is like and so forth. Great resource for helping to choose what major you may want to pursue.

Just type in whatever profession you have some kind of an inkling for in the "Search the Handbook" section and take a look. Hope this helps.

Profession that interest you. For the first and second year college are generally basic, within this two year period you have the time to think over what really matters you about professions. God bless!

That is too hard to say. What are your interests and what are you good at? If you love Math and Physics I would say : Engineering (any field) or Physics.

If you are a great leader I would say: Business

If you are meticulous and like to keep track of everything: Accounting

I can keep going on and on, but only you will know what to do. Sit down with an advisor or career counselor and see what is availabale to you.
