Lots of shelters and rescue groups have websites giving contact information and what type of volunteers they need. If your area shelter doesn't, just call and ask. Most places would love to have an extra set of hands. I just contacted my local shelter and offered my help.

There are a lot of shelters that will allow people to start volunteering at the age of 16 (lucky you). Most have their own website, so you could do a search for one locally. The one I signed up for had me fill an application, have an interview, and then take a class about animal care. I don't know many others that are that strict. It is so worth it. I have never had so much fun helping dogs find a home.

I think I answered another question of your a little while ago :] Well find a shelter in your area that you can call and ask if they need volunteers. If they do, look into getting together with someone there and they will hopefully explain what you have to do to become a volunteer. Some shelters do have a certain age, so be sure to ask about their age requirments. Well good luck!

It would be best if you start off calling your local shelter and ask them about the jobs that they require. I work in a shelter, and the first way I started was I went over to my local shelter and asked for an application, and if they knew any types of jobs that I would be perfect for. They would probably ask you questions, like...are you good with animals? Do you have pets of your own? Do you know some things about animals? I mean, if you want to start small, ask your local shelter if they have a job requiring taking care of the animals and feeding them. Feeding is very easy, in which you must learn which food each animal must have, as many animals can be allergic to some foods that they may serve in the shelter. Overall, it's an easy and entertaining job. Call the nearest shelter by you, ask them if there's any jobs a 16 year old will be able to do, ask if they have an application, ask if you can have a job there, and go over there yourself for further information, and the staff will tell you more and give you papers on working at your shelter. There are some local shelters, in different states, that have websites that can help out a lot and give you lots of information. What you can do is start off calling your nearest shelter and ask them for their website for information on a job, and if they say that they can tell you over phone, that would be even better. It's always a great idea to start off in person, because that way the staff will get to know you better. Tell them what you're good at and what you want to do. As I got my first job at the shelter, I told them that I love all animals and have animals of my own, and they gave me a couple of suggestions that would be perfect for me, and I chose myself. It's easy, not hard. It's fun, but still needs work. It's simple, nothing impossible. I think you'll do great for that job. You love animals. You're good with them. You understand everything about them. You will be ready to go. But, remember...a shelter has animals and if you decide to work there, you must know everything you must know if you want to work with animals. You will need to know every name of each dog, cat, or small animals. You'll need to know their age and what to say to the customers if they ask you a question. It's a lot of work, in which you need a good memory. But, I think you'll be ready for the job! :)
Good luck, sweety. Hope you get the job.

you could call the local animal shelters. some have facilities for cats alone, some for both...
in any case, the humane society might be a good place to start... if they dn't need volunteers you could ask them if they know of animal welfare organizations who do. you could also contact your local vet offices to see if they can help.
take care.
