500,000= 100000(50) - 2000000 - X(50)
so
500,000 = 5,000,000 - 2,000,000 - X * 50
and
500,000 = 3,000,000 - X * 50
subtracting
-2,500,000 = -X * 50
so
x = 2,500,000/ 50
and X = 50,000

I got 70k, but my knowledge of American Mathematics is limited. Text books make errors often, I wouldn't worry. There have been many times when I have stood in for an Answer Key for my Teacher because the Text book failed to do so. Hope I could be of some help. =D

500,000 = 100,000(50) - 2,000,000 - 50x
50x = 100,000(50) - 2,000,000 - 500,000
50x = 5,000,000 - 2,000,000 - 500,000
50x = 2,500,000
x = 2,500,000/50
x = 50,000
The book is right.
On another note...I'm not sure what Phaelin is talking about...American Mathematics? I was under the impression that Mathematics was the only Universal Language.

The answer is 50k
500,000 = 100,000 (50) - 2,000,000 - 50X
500,000 = 5,000,000 - 2,000,000 - 50X
50X = 2,500,000
X = 50,000

The textbook is right: 50k.
500K = 100k*(50) - 2000K - 50X
500K = 5000K - 2000K - 50X
500K = 3000K - 50X
50X = 3000K - 500K = 2500K
X = 2500K/50 = 50K
