He is hoping we think his decisions are endorsed by a higher power. Somedays, I think he believes it.

Bush thinks his actions and decisions are guided by a higher power (God). That's why he "stays the course" even when the course looks to everyone else like the Titanic heading for an iceberg.
He also believes that he will be judged by history to be one of the greatest leaders our nation ever had. And, it's his faith in God that gives him the strength to not listen to detractors and nay-sayers.
In other words, he's nuts.

He has political speach advisors. These tell him what to say and how to say. Forget Bush as individual. He is just a tip of the iceberg.
Despite the quality of what is said, it is effective to reintroduce religious roots into the masses, as is being done thoughtfully. American brains have figured this. Religion is slowly coming back into the wide media. It has proven to be a powerful motivation trigger when larger groups need to be moved toward a set political goal.

He may be delusional--he may actually believe that he's getting instructions for his egregious decisions directly From Above. It's far more likely, however, that he is pandering to the far right of the right wing 'base' that Karl Rove set up to seduce in Bush's first campaign. To our daddies' warnings of "Never play poker with a man named Doc, and never eat at a restaurant called 'Mom's', we should also add "Never vote for someone who claims to get messages from the Almighty". Charlatans get rich off of folks like Bush's base...and, alas, the US got a president their daddies should have warned them about. This comes under the heading of "Who knew?".

It say's in the Bible to pray for our leaders. For them to make the right decisions and to be influenced by the right hand of God. I don't know about you but I believe prayer works. I think that when Bush uses the word "Almighty" he knows this and is actually asking for guidance. After all, it takes alot of courage for a President to even mention the word "God". I don't know about you but I'm one happy camper he's not saying "Allah".

Washington, Lincoln, FDR and Martin Luther King appealed to God as well.
It's part of the American culture. And Western civilization.
At least it was, until recently. But there have been many attacks on our nation and culture from both at home and abroad in recent years.
Sad.

People have justified theur actions through the divine since the birth of religion. He thinks god talks to him. Who can say that he is wrong? Does any believer here think they know the mind of god? If so I'd like to intoduce you to my friend Reality. Reality, this is deluded. I've been wanting to get you two together for a while.

People won't vote for someone who says they don't believe in god, but then biitch when the leader follows his beliefs. I myself think all the religious nuts are stupid... but then, I am sitting here in front of this computer instead of running the most powerful nation on earth.
