they are pretending because they don't want to think about it themself

When it's the "big stuff" like stealing and cheating and lying, they act like it never happened because it's easier on THEIR conscience. They figure if they've been found out and confronted, they can pretend it never happened so they don't have to feel guilty anymore. So wrong !! I'm sorry if you've been hurt by someone, if they are acting like nothing happened then they will probably do something similar again and think it's no big deal.

This is a good question, however I do not have the answer for everyone, but part of it I think has to do with their raising.
I mean if they are use to things like this happening in their own family unit. Then they are as they are.
Some families discuss, even heatedly at times, while others go about trying to ignore the problem as it silently escalates into something worse.

I'm sure there are many other factors as well.

Possibly several reasons. 1. they did not do it to hurt you, they were just thinking of themselves. 2. they are unaware they have hurt you. 3. they know they hurt you but are not adult enough to address the issue openly 4. they know they hurt you but don't care 5. they know they did wrong but don't think it's a big deal 6. they don't care about or have not learned yet how their actions have consequences 7. they know they hurt you and wish they hadn't done it, but do not have a clue how to deal with it so they pretend it didn't happen.
Those are my best guesses. What do you think?

People typically do the following things to protect theirself and don't really consider you. Then they pretend nothing ever happened to further protect theirself because if they really thought about the damage it had done, then it would make them feel guilty.

Yes, this is a favorite tactic of some. They do you dirt, then make like everything is just fine and then make you out to be the bad guy when you get mad! These are people to expunge from your life.

I have a sister who does similiar stuff....lying, backstabbing, spreading rumors that aren't true. I think it is because she is jealous that my life has been better than hers.... in some odd way I don't understand, I think it makes her feel better about herself and her life. She does it to others too, not just me.

Because they don't want you to get the chance to think revenge, they want to make up with you and let it be done with, like it never happened. That tactic never works, and those people will never realize it.

My ex-wife used to do that. She would say and do things to hurt me and piss me off, then say that I just misunderstood her; that anyone else would have known she was just kidding. I would start doubting myself, thinking maybe I was being a jerk, then later she would admit to what she had done and laugh about it. People like her not only want to hurt you and piss you off, they want to drive you insane, too.

I know, mate. I know that feeling all too well.

That is why I swore I would never let myself get hurt again. It didn't work, so I just get on with it. To h*ll with them, I say. Good luck to you mate, don't let em get ya down *hugs*
