Scotland: Doctors forbidden to eat at their desks to avoid offending Muslims fasting during Ramadan
DOCTORS and health workers have been banned from eating lunch at their desks - in case it offends their Muslim colleagues.
Health chiefs believe the sight of food will upset Muslim workers when they are celebrating the religious festival Ramadan.

Gretchen - you can insult me all you like, that doesn't change the fact that people are being forced to respect a religion. Personally I do my best to respect them but only through free will, not because my workplace or the government forces me to… that’s pretty scary and it’s pretty scary that you can’t see that.

I will really try to keep for going off on a rant, here. I am so tired of doing this and not doing that so as not to offend someone or other. I think you can try to respect someone else's belief all you want to and it is not going to do a thing toward building goodwill or anything else. If the Muslims want to fast, that is their business. If the non-Muslims want to eat lunch, that should be their business. The fact that both activities take place within sight of each other should not upset either party. If non-Muslims realize that Muslims fast, then surely Muslims realize that other people eat? Why in the world would it upset a fasting Muslim to see non-Muslims eating during Ramadan (unless, of course, they wanted a bite and couldn't have it)? To quote Alice In Wonderland, "Curiouser and curiouser."

I don't think people should have to be punished or inconvienienced because of other peoples beliefs. And to Gretchens comments below me...you are dumb, they should respect that i am agnostic and i don't believe in organized relgions so their beliefs mean nothing, and they dont' have to sit there and watch me eat. Why Do non muslims have to change the way they act because some people beleive in something? what if their religion said women couldn't wear clothing and if a man told them to do something they had to do it, would you respect that wish? The only hostility i can see being created is people like you angering people like me. You are a hypocrit. I Do respect other people and their beliefs, and i do not want to fight them because they believe differently then me. And if they get offended by me eating in front of them, then their beliefs are probably wavering.
sorry for the rant im just angry at people like you.

What about the doctors who are offended by being forced not to eat at their desks because of someone else's beliefs? Seems a bit unfair to me.

F that. So if I believe that GOD would love my clothing to be dipped in Pig Fat, would the law ask them not to say anything about my clothing.
That is so dumbbbbbbb, I eat at my desk every day at work, and if my boss told me that, I would get the person fired because i want to eat at my desk.
I wonder if Muslims would have fought crusaders if they had the blades of the swords dipped in pig fat? I believe getting cut by the blade would be the same as eating it as well.
any takers on that one?

You might want to post this type of question in the religion section. It has nothing to do with Politics and Government.

Islam does not force anything on anyone but it will show a good side of you only if you show respect to another religion.
If I invite an Indian friend over,I make sure not to put on table anything containing beef even if I have no problem with it,just so that they may not accidently eat it.
I would appreciate those doctors if they refrain of eating on their desks during Ramadam.

No. If religious people get offended by the actions of non-religious people, then their faith is lacking.

I would tell them to stick it in their ear...besides, whats the use of denying yourself if everybody around you is denying themselves too? You won't feel nearly as miserable and spiritual.
