It depends if you want to be a clinical psychologist. This is the type of psychologist that most people think of when they here the term, however, be aware that only about 1/2 of all psychologists are trained as clinical. The other branches include: social psychology, industrial/organizational, ergonomics, educational, school, developmental and others. The various branches will lead to various career paths.

A "typical" day would vary greatly, even if you do mean a clinical psychologist. It would depend on whether you were in private practice or working in an institutional setting. Salaries as well would vary considerably, with private practice probably paying the best.

Most clinical psychologists must have the Ph.D. to practice. Plus it requires passing a licensure exam in the state you want to work in. Other branches do NOT require the Ph.D., but probably at least the masters. Try talking with your school counselor about your ambitions and good luck!

you are a little young to be thinking about college, ambition is good but enjoy your teen years a little more...anyways, to become a psychologist, you should major in psychology, get your bachelors in it, then go on to get your masters which takes about 2 more years in addition to your 4 years undergrad, then you have to get your ph.d in psych which would take about an additional about 3 years give or take....its a long process, for decent pay, averaging about 60 or 70k, sometimes a lot more, sometimes less. it depends on your employment. a typical day would be meeting with a few clients and diagnosing their mental illness and helping them to get better....it can be extremely stressful and you have to have the right mind state for it...psychologists will always be needed, however with decreasing insurance coverage, people may be more and more likely discouraged to seek help. good luck..
