To be a psychologist you need to get your license, which means you need to be have a Masters degree or Doctorate degree.
As long as you have your license you are a Psychologist and can call yourself one.
With a Masters in psychology you can become a licensed therapist in any field (family/marriage, couples, Drug & Alcohol, Social Working, Life Coach, School Counselor). Some of these specific fields require more schooling and licensing, but check with your State/Country.

Good Luck!

I would suggest going to a school near you that has a psychology program. The professors there would be the best ones to consult and they will let you know what your options are. There are different kinds of psychologists see below website for an explaination.

However, the previous posting is right in order to be a licensed psychologist you must get your PhD. If all you want is get you masters and not go beyond that then think about a masters in counseling or social work.

If you mean CLINICAL psychology (the branch of the field that involves itself in diagnosing and treating mental illness) most of that work requires the Ph.D. HOWEVER, many prisons will hire you with just the master's degree.

Please be aware that psychologists are NOT medical doctors, nor are they social workers. Clinical psychologists are trained, as I mentioned above, to diagnose and treat mental illness. About half of all psychologists are CLINICAL psychologists. The remainder are in school psychology, social psychology, ergonomics, industrial/organization psychology, educational psychology and even more branches of the discipline. Many of these branches do not require the terminal degree to practice in them.
