I have a t-shirt that says, "I will keep wearing black until God creates a darker color". I was told that ebony was darker than black. Is that true?

By definition, no. Black is the absence of light. If there is a darker color, God has probably already created it. Perhaps a black hole would qualify.

Ebony is a very dark wood, but any specimen of ebony will reflect some light, unless it is stained or otherwise treated.

The darkest you can get is a black hole, where light can't even escape, much less reflect. Every other object and color reflects *something* even if it is minuscule, including ebony. In fact, nothing except a black hole should technically fit the definition of black, which is an absence of color. But, we need a name for it. So I would say that black is as dark as you can get.

Ebony isn't really black. Ebony is a dark, dark brown.

Black is as black as you can get. It is the absence of light.
