My husband and I are not sure if we are going to circumcise our son (he is due in early October). I was just wondering if this has an effect on the decision to baptise in the Catholic Church?
Thanks for the help!

To Tristy P, I didn't ask for your religious opinions... I have my own religious beliefs and I am perfectly comfortable with them. Don't go around pushing your beliefs on others, it's not good social etiquette.

The catholic church does not require it. It is completely your choice.
There are just as many pros and cons to doing it or not. Don't listen to anyones opinion and make your own. It's a completely personal decision. Do what is best for you.

I am Catholic as well and we did not circumcise our boys. The church does not place any requirements on infants in regards to circumcision.
I am really glad we decided not to circumcise our sons. The first few years of diaper changing is so much easier because until the foreskin retracts on it's own (which on average is around ages 3-5) their little penis doesn't require any special care. Where-as if you do decide to circumcise you have to apply vasaline and gause at each changing!
There are a few "negatives" people like to point out about not circumcising:
1- An uncircumcised penis requires more personal hygine once the foreskin retracts. This is true. However, our boys don't have to spend any more time or attention washing themselves in the bath than a little girl does. They just pull the foreskin back a bit, wipe off with a soapy wash rag and they are good to go.
2- An uncircumcised man is more likely to contract an STD. This is also true because the foreskin provides more hiding places for viruses and bacteria. HOWEVER, they still have to have unprotected sex with an infected partner to be at risk!! So as long as they practice safe sex they will be fine.
3- An uncircumcised boy will be teased in the locker room. This probably depends on where you live. We're on the west coast and in our state (Oregon) as well as the rest of the western region, infant circumcision rates are actually less than 50%...so our boys will actually be in the majority in their locker rooms.

I am not sure about the catholic church but i know a few people that did not circumcise there boys and they had problems later in life and had to be circumcised later which made it worse for the boys.

The Catholic Church does not care if your son is circumsized or not, that is your choice. It isnt a question that they ask you when you register your child to be baptised.
