It has been going on for many many years. Every news story about China is invariably focusing almost entirely on the negatives or if any positives are mentioned, it has always ended with a negative insinuation by the supposedly "independent and free" media in the U.S.
Most recently, in May it was the trade dispute over the U.S. trade deficit and the U.S. wanting China to revalue its currency. Then, shortly after the U.S. failed to win anything from the bilateral trade talks in May, the U.S. media all of a sudden unianimously started reporting on "defective Chinese products" and seemed to generalized all products made in China. Yet, when 15 million of cans of U.S. made meat from a Georgia plant were recalled due to botulism contamination, it was not labeled by the media as "U.S. meat" in the headlines, like they always mention the origin of Chinese products. Nor, was the danger of botulism described as a bacteria used in biological warfare, (contd. below)

like the way the U.S. media went to detail in describing how diethylene glycol is also used in anti-freeze found in certain China-made toothpaste. Where was the label "U.S. made cars" in the headlines when U.S. cars were recalled due to faulty brakes, tires, and engines that catch fire? Where was the label "U.S. made drugs" when large U.S. drug companies had to recall drugs causing heart disease and death due to inadequate testing and research? How about "U.S. produce" for E.coli tainted spinach, "U.S. meat" again for mad cow disease tainted beef, salmonella in chicken...The U.S. media has never tried to incite the public to hate all "U.S. made" products. Yet, this so-called independent and free press has been doing exactly the opposite when it comes to China made products. "Independent" from what? "Free" from what? It seems to be doing exactly what the U.S. government wants it to do in order to try to gain leverage in the trade imbalance with China and to bolster U.S. manufacturing...

What a deceitful joke the whole of the U.S. media is. Why suddently report on defective China products now, shortly after the U.S. failed to coerce China to change its trade policy in the May trade talks? You know, it is really funny how the U.S. media started reporting on the conviction and execution of China's drug agency chief. He was arrested in 2005, which was two years ago, for crimes completely unrelated to the current "controversy" over China made products. It's funny how they tried to lump his story with the defective product stories they are just reporting now. Why suddenly report a two year-old story now? And why try to link EVERYTHING to a few problematic products that are suddenly getting attention out of the more than $900 billion worth of goods exported to the U.S. by China every year?

Is this the best that this so-called independent and free press can do with their "freedoms"?

To Parlance:

NOBODY? Really? Just type in "China products" or "made in China", or something similar in Yahoo! Answers and see just how many hateful, hysterical, ill-informed messages have been posted by users for the past two months and more!

To Parlance again:

That same Today Show program you mentioned just reported on the Mattel toy recall. And the first sentence the show host spoke place strong emphasis on the fact that it was "Chinese-made". But where was the label "U.S. produced" used in the U.S. media when contaminated U.S. meat was recalled a few weeks ago? NO ONE in the entire U.S. media ever used such a label for U.S. defective or contaminated products. Now, 48 million Nokia phone batteries are being recalled, but the country of origin where they were manufactured was not even mentioned, because it was not China. Only when a defective product is from China does the U.S. media remember to loudly label the country of origin in the headlines. All of this shows that American journalists in general have nothing to do with journalistic ethics and values. Anyone who has been watching and listening to the U.S. media should wake up to the true intentions of this most prejudiced and deceptive group of people.

Exactly why, the minions who keep believing all the China crap from our government, they are the same people who condemn the crap from our government they don't support.

The lack of common sense with the American people is one of the reasons we are in two wars and if the American people had their way and we had an unlimited amount of troops and money, we'd do it again in Iran, N Korea, probably Venezuela and possibly China...........yet after the smoke cleared on our failures in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the people now know we were deceived, they still believe the same administration vilifying of any country that we don't support.

That is just monumentally dumb.

The American people, by and large, lack so much common sense. Factor in that and our military and the industrial system that supplies that, along with the huge profits to be made -- it makes America a very dangerous country for world peace.

It is no wonder our government is hated worldwide. Thank god that hatred does not spill over, within most of those area's, towards the American people who are widely highly regarded.

Peace

Jim

I would disagree with you completely. "Every news story" isn't bashing China. Of course the recalls make headlines - they have to make sure the word gets out so that babies aren't permitted to continue to chew on lead paint and family pets don't continue to die from contaminated food. The media is providing a public service. How else do you get the word out to 300 million people but through media outlets?

I have nothing whatsoever against China or the Chinese and I don't know anyone who does.

You know, I haven't heard anything until the toothpaste had a poisonous substance in it, then the toys were painted with lead-based paint.

If China would get their products right and stop recalling them then we would have no problem. the business people in China are all messed up. In America, under pressure people usually resign..not blow their head off.
