I believe it is more of an endearment than anything.

Same as, touching your face, your hair, calling you a pet name, etc.

Patting a gf on the butt is ... Kinda like playful endearment..

Also they just might like touching you bottom.....

beause butts turn guys on, i mean butts sure make me horny.

(i'm one of those guys who stares at girls butts all the time )
