HI!! My sister-in-law was due on August 4, so she's heading toward 2 weeks overdue. she wants to do everything natural, which I totally support, but we're all (especially her) getting fustrated.

She is planning on having a natural birth in water at her home attended by certified midwives. She has been receiving her prenatal care from experienced and well-qualified midwives. There have been no problems in the pregnancy (aside from not gaining alot of weight) but this baby is so late, is there anything she can do that maybe she hasn't thought of?

She's seriously considered castor oil, but my brother doesn't like the idea, and she is scared to (says she doesn't want stomach cramps on top of labor pains).

She's been trying other things (nipple stimulation and others) but so far, nothing's worked (though she did have a brief "false labor" on Aug 6, I believe.

Anything that can be done that maybe she hasn't thought of?

Thanks.

OH.. a relative of ours, who has quite a bit of experience as a midwife's assistant (her mother is the best midwife in this part of the country), says she didn't look like she'd dropped yet. That was this past weekend.

Thanks for the answers.. Yeah NIpple stimulation is what finally brought on labor with her first child who was 10 days late. I'm pretty sure they're trying the sex thing.. but she doesn't talk about it to me because... well.. it grosses me out.. after all.. it's my BROTHER she'd be talking about.. EWWW!! LOLL

the baby will come when your body is ready and not a second before or from anything you do - her dates must have been off a little that's all - I did everything to try to have my son faster -nothing worked...I tried sex, castor oil, blue cohosh, raspberry leaf tea - walking 5 miles a day - he just wasn't ready -your body senses the max weight you can carry and when the baby reaches that, your womb will trigger labor - and not until then...the water birth sounds great - just encourage her to rest as much as she can, have some sex and enjoy her partner while there is still time.
when I had my first, she was 8 lbs 13 oz....I was induced with my son and he ended being 8 lbs 4 oz - I might of had to wait another 2 weeks for him to get to 9lbs!!! I was crazy at that point and insisted to be induced the day I was 40 weeks but I also have 2 other kids and the waiting was very difficult - have her take walks, do her keigle exercises and perhaps drink the raspberry leaf tea to tone the uterine muscles as the blue cohosh does but tastes like**** . The baby will come I promise and I commend her for being so brave and patient!!!

Nipple stimulation always works for me. Also getting the membranes stripped IF the midwife is experienced in this--it can cause premature rupture of the amniotic sac if it is not done properly.

Having an orgasm can help stimulate contractions. Also, washing the cervix in sperm regularly can help ripen it. (Seriously, I guess it's true even though it seems like something a starved husband of an unwilling Mommy-to-be dreamed up).

Is there a possibility that the due date was miscalculated?

Good Luck! God Bless!

Castor oil never works, just gives you a day of misery and no baby. I'm surprised the nipple stim didn't work. Maybe keep trying, with a pump if necessary. Ask her dr to strip the membranes, it can really get things going. Its normal that she has not dropped, many 2nd time mothers don't drop until delivery.

i was induce at 41 weeks. even after i was induce it took me about 36 hours for me to start pushing ( the baby wasn't coming down) i was getting very frustrated and my nurse told me to close my eyes, relax, and actually picture my baby coming down the birth canal.i tried this for a couple of minutes and the before i knew it, it was time to push.
is wonderful how mind over power works.
best of luck.

Walk Walk Walk anywhere and everywhere it helped me. But she might want to consider being induced. Good luck.
