There is no true aphrodisiac. Sorry. Increased libdo has been attributed to oysters, chocolate, monkey brains, rhino horn, even cigarette ashes dunped in a girl's coke and countless other things. None of it works as an aphrodisiac. There are products for men and women that seem to prolong the act of sex, and products for men that help with ED problems. But there is no proven source for a real aphrodisiac. Dark chocolate however has several health benefits when eaten in moderation. Regular chocolate will only add pounds. But it is good isn't it.

Rest easy. Chocolate has been getting good press lately! Especially dark chocolate. I don't know about it being an aphrodisiac, but it is a great anti-oxidant! Rock on! Bring on the chocolate!

yes it is. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine.
Chocolate is full of phenylethylamine — a chemical cousin of amphetamine.

So, yes, there’s a definite chemical (upper) response involved. Could this be why chocolate is the #1 choice of lovers on Valentine’s Day?

Chocolate also contains ANANDAMIDE, a compound that binds to the same receptors in the brain as marijuana. Hence the slight feeling of elation.

Now, mind you, the body also produces its own anandamide, and other chemicals in chocolate slow down the breakdown of this interesting anti-depressant. http://www.globalpsychics.com/empowering-you/wholistic-health/love-chocolate.shtml

Chocolate contains a natural 'love drug'. Tryptophan is a chemical that the brain uses to make a neurotransmitter called serotonin. High levels of serotonin can produce feelings of elation, even ecstasy - hence the name of the designer drug that also works by increasing serotonin levels.http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/hottopics/chocolate/addictive2.shtml

It's effects on the brain are pleasure inducing. Who says it's bad, as long as it is consumed in moderation? Dark chocolate has been getting quite a bit of great press lately actually.

Chocolate stimulates the same pleasure centres of the brain that will be used during sex.

Aphrodisiacs are used to increase sexual desire.

people say it's bad for you because it usually has a high fat/calorie content (unless it's the dark stuff).

I've heard just the opposite actually. That chocolate satisfies the same part of your brain as having sex does, so it works in the opposite way. If you're brain is already satisfied than you are "less in need" of that part of your brain needing satisfaction. Guess that's why nothing turns guys off, the brain that controls their sexual urges is in a different location!!!

Note to guys: Feed your woman chocolate AFTERWARDS. (Or something like chocolate covered strawberries). That way you KNOW she's satisfied... lol.

Dark chocolate is good for you, it has less fat. As for it being an aphrodisiac, why don't you try it and see...

No. But, chocolate does contain tryptophan, a serotonin precursor, that the brain is able to turn into serotonin.

Serotonin is responsible for all the happy feelings we get ... it lifts a person's mood, thus, the light, happy, airy feeling we get after eating chocolate. :)
