Do you know what shop (if any) did the rebuild? I would be carefull and try to find out. A good shop can do a great job and you would think its from the factory while others give you a hand grenade. The only rebuilds I have had good luck with are diesels, where the cylinder liner (instead of boring outthe block) and everything else is replaced.

Do you have any documentaion of the re-build ? if not, how do we know it's true ? take the seller's good word ? I want to see some documentation such as a reciept, or something, other than that, it's just "Hear say", Buyer beware, agree on a price AS LONG AS THE SHOP FIND'S NO PROBLEM'S, any problem's and "DEAL OFF", make that perfrectly clear, and don't pay cash, use a check, it can be stopped, tell him you'll take the boat when the check clears.

This is no different than buying a car with a "rebuilt" engine. If it runs good, that a good start. But, try to get documentation of the rebuild to determine if it was done a a reputable outfit.
If no document trail is available...proceed with caution.

As long as a reliable person or shop did the rebuild i wouldn't be concerned at all, a rebuilt engine is actually a good thing

Get a cylinder leak down test on it or at least a compression test before purchasing.
With that many hours it should still be around a 160 psi on compression test and no lower than 140

Well, you can look if the engine be painted. If, there paint on wires and hoses odds are it was not re-built. Also, he should have receipts to show what he paid and the work done, it give the name of who did it and you could talk to them.
