i have a 2000 mustang v6 3.8 im on vacation like 600 miles from my house recentley in the morning when i start it up the oil guage doesnt work and there is a kind of loud ticking knocking its in the place were you add oil to the engine is were i can here the noise after the car warms up the oil guage goes back to normal and the noise stops it drives fine well at least as it did i cant tell the diffrence the check engine light was allready on for a bad egr tube what do you think it could be and can i make a 600 mile trip home

take it somewhere and have them manually check the oil pressure,sounds like your oil pump is failing and if it completely goes then you could lock up the motor which is alot more than a oil pump

First check the oil level. - If it's low, top up.
If it's in the operating range, your oil pump may be packing up on you.
Sorry, if thats the case, a long trip would be risky.
It might fail totally on the way.

i would change you r oil and motor flush it first oil is thicker at start up and thins as it heats up if it has been a while you might not be able to pump oil to your top end causing the lifters to rattle this is the cheapest and easiest to do and may just do the trick
