Expectation is something you wanted to happen and see for your own self the results out of the efforts you have made. In expectation, it is an event that will truly happen whatever it may be. While hope is a positive wishful thinking that may not happen. In hope you are holding on for a good news and never a bad one. Unlike in expectation, you are anticipating the happening of the event with uncontrollable results whether good or bads. Expectation doesn't involve a feeling or emotion unlike in hope where there is an involvement feelings.
Example:
Hope i answered your question correctly. I know you are expecting my answer.

Expectation is anticipation, a prospect of future offspring. The state of waiting for [logically not physically (mental picture)] something to happen, someone to come [to a certain degree of probability]:
* Great Expectations
* I am expecting some company
* Our relationship is expected to be a success.
Hope: I think the idiom 'hope against hope' is very useful here. Hope is 'longing', it is the state of feeling that what one wants, needs and wishes will sometime be achieved.
My wonderful kiddy, you worn me out on answering this question!

Hope is a feeling of something you want to happen or turn out the way you would like. Expectation is when you have reason to anticipate something to happen.
When a woman is pregnant, she's often referred to as "expecting" because she is pregnant and most likely will deliver a child. And a woman who hopes to have a child isn't currently pregnant. Although she can hope to have a girl :-)
The two terms could even be combined in the same thought/sentence. For example:
She's pregnant and expecting a child but is hoping it's a girl.

Expectation is the LIKELIHOOD, the probability of something you can safely presume will happen. Hope is closer to "wish," (far less plausible than hope), hope being expectation based on desire (with or without the likelihood).
My expectation is that when I put my door key in the lock, the door will open as it always has.
My hope is that I'll find the book I've been looking for for two years, & probably donated, (but maybe not)!

hmmm - maybe a good example is placing a long shot bet - lets say horses.
you expect Horse X to win. but you bet on Horse Y and you hope Horse Y will win.
basically expectation is thinkning there is more than a good chance that an event will happen and hope is wanting a certain event to happen against other possible events.

Both are causes of high blood pressure. In expectation, it is the result expected after the leap and whether it tallies with the point charts of others too. Hope is the extra tips likely to be handed over later.

Expectations - what you think will happen (for example, you sister owes you money, but you're not expecting to get it back since it's been over a year now)
Hope - what you want to happen (even though it's been over a year, you still hope that she'll repay you the money she owes you)

Expectations are things I'm 90% sure will be an outcome I have predicted. Hope is something I'm 50% or less confident will be an outcome I'm predicting, but am convincing myself will be a 100%.

The pressure you put upon it hapening.
If you hope for something, and it doesn't- that doesn't make it anyone's fault. (you hope that you can beat a guy in chess who is equally matched with /better than you)
If you expect something you put pressure on you or someone else for it to happen. It is more tramatic when it doesn't happen. (you expect to beat your little sister who has never played chess in her life- ok, maybe if you aren't trying to win, but you get the idea.)

At first glance there seems to be little difference; however expectations to me have a more immediate quality to them (i.e. You should expect a reward for a job you accomplished, you should expect a "You're welcome" when you said "Thank you").
Hope on the other hand has a deeper and maybe more complex meaning; it has to do with our wishes and desires.
