Apart from the dinosaurs what do you think is the most interesting thing to show a 5 year old?

We'll probably go to the Science Museum to so any suggestions for there too would be appreciated.

Chas,
I am not interested in your ridiculous creationist views, keep them to yourself or chat about them to your god bothering friends but don't use my question to spout your nonsense.

I think you're aiming high if you want to cover both of these on one visit, they are both huge museums with plenty to offer people of all ages. If he is dead set on the dinosaurs then perhaps you should limit the Natural History to just those on this visit, as the Science Museum will take enough time on its own. There is a childrens Gallery near the cafeteria on the lower ground floor which is great fun, things to push, pull, stand on, look through, work out and more. There is the space shuttle, the lightning generator and a whole host of things to look at on every floor. The planes and cars are fascinating too. Possibly this would be more up a five year old boy's street and it takes ages to cover. I must warn you that you may not get him out of the souvenir shop easily, which is quite easy to wander into without realising it, though they have stuff from 50p to really expensive gifts and gadgets.

The other thing children tend to love in the Natural History Museum is the enormous Blue Whale, but there is plenty to see for free in this museum too and they always have special exhibitions on which you can pay for.

Both places are likely to be very busy during the holidays. Take the tube to South Kensington on the Picaddily, District or Circle lines and follow the underground tunnel to the Natural History Museum.

Have a great day out, I am sure you will both love it.

I hope you have a really lovely day. The natural History Museum is a brilliant place and there are lots of things for
you both to play with there. The creative room is where you can touch and feel and turn and all sorts of stuff. The tea & coffee are a bit expensive in their but its a treat go on spoil yourselves.

The new set up there is fabulous. It's VERY child friendly with lots of buttons to push and interactive areas to fire the child's interest.

Years back (before the age of buttons to push!), my two sons had a brilliant time at the NHM. Areas that I would've thought they wouldn't enjoy (a huge room filled with bird's eggs for example!) they loved. So let your son lead you. Wander at leisure and if his interest is sparked, stay a while and enjoy his excitement.

Have a great trip.

Great displays inside the cases, but unfortunately marred by the utterly biased labels on the outside.

For example you might like to balance their view of dinosaurs with evidence they ignore. Given that the NHM should be taking a balance scientific view, their bigoted evolutionary approach is sad.

Those that think the dinosaurs died out millions of years ago are perhaps unaware of the large amount of evidence indicating that they lived recently alongside man.

There are many written accounts and depictions of dinosaurs.

Remember that the word dinosaur was invented in 1841. Before that people used names like dragon.
People from all over the world have accounts of dinosaurs: the Chinese who have incorporated it into their lunar calendar, The Welsh who have the dragon in their flag; The account of the Saxon Beowolf; The native american thunderbird; and other stories from many other nations. The Romans even made mosaics of them.

Furthermore, dinosaur fossils have even been found containing blood cells - hardly 65 million years old.

But check the evidence for yourself - don't by brainwashed by dogmatic evolutionists who don't want us to think for ourselves :)

Another example:
They have a 'reconstructed' model of autralopithecene Lucy.
It is rather interesting, showing Lucy with human like hands and feet. The fossil was found with no hands or feet. The human hands and feet and artistic impression based on evolutionary suppositions. In fact other australopithecene fossils have been found with ape-like hands and feet.
One wonders why the NHM continues to deliberately mislead people, when they no full well that their model is quite wrong.

Show him the massive collection of illegal immigrants and Poles that London has to offer. Take him on a sightseeing tour of Scottish tramps through the ages which can be seen on every street corner outside the museum! Play "spot the English person" throughout the day and see how many (or few) you can come up with!
Only joking, what about the Darwin section of the museum, you can show him how man evolved from apes. There is a great sea life section with whales and dolphin models.

You must take him to the science museum which is just next door around the corner.
Gadgets, things to press, working models, makes me wanna be 5 again.

Have fun
