Depends on its constitution - - if it looked like it had been written by Hayek or Friedman, I'd be with it.
America isn't a flag or a place, it's an ideal - the ideal of liberty.
And I don't understand the notion of people fearing "being left behind" - - - capitalism has proven to improve the lot of everyone involved - - - just to different degrees. When agricultural countries transform into manufacturing economies, the worker bees are much better off financially as factory workers than they had been as serfs. They also have more mobility, which increases as the economy evolves further and becomes more knowledge-based.

Look, I'm an American, and I have some pride in my American heritage. I'm also a Californian, and I have some pride in that, too - in spite of California being part of The United States of Ameirca.
Even if there were a successful, non-dystopian World Government of some kind, I could still retain those feelings.

Corrections ! The whole world is a single Democratic Republic and each individual country is exercising their rights to preserve her own identity in the democratic world. It simply means you have right to make your own laws and I have right to make my own laws by reciprocation.

It won't happen. And if by some miracle it did I probably would see enough difference in life style or other factors besides a democratic republican government to remain a citizen as I am now.

No, because a worldwide, pure democracy would quickly evolve into a situation analogous to two cats and one mouse taking a vote on what to have for lunch.

I'm sure there are many on the left who would say yes, but then they would look for any excuse to let go of their nationalism. They don't seem to be able to understand the concept and can't differentiate between nationalism and racism.

Not worth pondering.
Most of the world has soundly rejected the concept of democracy in government.
There are too many people that are afraid they might be left behind in the capitalistic economy that is sure to follow.
Never going to happen.

No, Id start looking for a new planet.
The larger the gov't the more removed each person is. The more removed you are the easier it is to restrict your freedoms.
(This is my problem with the US gov't too-we're too big already)

Americans in general have a strong patriotism and I doubt we would truly loose our nationalism.
