I often hear people say they believe a woman should only have an abortion in the event of rape, incest, or life of the mother. Or abortion SHOULD be legal because of those things. The question I have is how do you define rape? Is physical evidence needed to prove rape? Many times rape is not reported by the victim, so if she does not report it, and finds out later she is pregnant, and wants an abortion because she was raped, but there is not any physical evidence. Also, if a patient tells a doctor they are victim of a crime, is the Doctor under any obligation to report the crime to the police?
I am not trying to be funny, or make light of a violent crime.
And if you say the woman's word is enough, should the authorities be notified? And if the ONLY way to get an abortion were to say she was raped, would she lie to get one?If you say physical evidence is needed, then a woman is victimized twice.
I am very pro life, BTW! I believe abortion is wrong.
Thank You!

If the law was changed to allow abortion for rape or incest only you would be amazed at the increase in the number of pregnancies caused by rape.

Personally I do not believe it should be limited by those options. I have never understood how people can call it murder, but it is ok when.

My opinion is that abortion is wrong, but as an opinion, I cannot expect someone to walk my walk based on my opinion.

If a law was passed where abortion was allowed only in those cases, I am afraid there would be some women going underground. Would you care to admit that you are pregnant due to the fact that your Father raped you?

This is a very emotional subject, and one that does not have easy answers. I look forward to reading some of the other responses.

The woman's word should not be enough. If an oral testimony given to a detective is not enough for a warrant for arrest or to put a murderer in jail, then the woman's word should not be enough. Physical evidence should be provided, because a lot of women would lie just to get the abortion.

No the Dr is under no obligation to tell the athorities. As a matter of fact he/she can not with out the persons permition. As far as how it is proved. i believe that if a woman has the courage to say she is raped, then she has been raped. The physical evidence should only come into question when trying to prove who raped her.

An unwanted pregnancy is just that, no matter what the reason. Making a woman state the 'right' reason her pregnancy is unwanted in order to get an abortion is non-sensical.

Abortion should be legal, but we should do everything we can short of arresting women and their doctors to reduce the number of abortions.

That's why abortion should be performed whenever the woman wants to... only SHE knows how she would feel best, not the gov't, not the right-wing nuts.

Lefty women should be encouraged to have abortions, or better yet, get sterilized.
