Are they bed bugs or dust mites? If you have bed bugs you will need to take your mattress, wrap it in plastic (front/back) like a present and put it in the sun.. That will kill the bed bugs.. I would go to the store or look online for a plastic/rubber mattress cover to surround your mattress and leave it permanetly on.. You can then cover that with a nice waterproof cover that is machine washable. While the mattresses are outside give your room a through cleaning and wipe down your floor boards with cleaner and vacuum your carpeting really well at least once a week. When you unwrap your mattress sprinkle with baking soda and let that sit and vacuum that up as well. It will freshen your mattress and smother the bed bugs... I vacuum my mattress when I change my bedding once a week... Good night sleep tight and well you know the rest !!!

I would get a new mattress and invest in a Clean Rest Mattress Protector. It encases the whole thing and is designed to keep mites and allergens from getting in your mattress. They are available at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $100 +/- depending on the size your are looking for.

It does sound like spider bites -- there could be more than one, or it could be the same spider (they do bite more than once). Is there a window open at night? Could mosquitos come in his room? I would bet on the spiders though. You might want to have his room (if not the whole house) treated by a pest control company for spiders, etc. There are many new treatment options out there that are safe for babies, children and pets.

Do what you need to do, but you will always have the mites. They feed on the dead skin cells that are constantly shed from your body. These mites are microscopic, and pose no danger to you. Use cleaners and disinfectants, but the mites will always be there.
