People need to realize that Premium gas isn't necessarily better for your car. The higher octane requires a hotter burn from the engine.

If you hot rod your car the 91 octane would be good for your car. The newer cars run best and get the best gas mileage using the 89 octane - which runs best in the new engines.

A 425hp car or even the new charger 340hp could run better with the higher octane.

The "grades" of gas are based upon the octane point. the distinction is carried out interior the refining technique. the quantity of time-honored gas you are able to refine from a barrel of oil, is an analogous by way of fact the quantity of top type gasoline you are able to refine from a barrel of gas. the cost distinction is predicated on the refining technique, because it takes extra refining technique to make a better octane gas. consequently, the cost distinction between the two porducts is unaffected, regardless of if the backside value of oil is $4 a barrel or $seventy 4 a barrel. What you're procuring is the refining cost, which has no longer replaced. Out of a $3.00 gallon of gasoline, the cost ofthe base oil is approximately $a million.60, the cost of refining and transportation is approximately 60cents, the the taxes to the Fed and state is approximately 60 cents, the community gasoline station makes approximately 10 cents, and the huge undesirable oil agency is making approximately ten cents as properly. Oil agencies make a brilliant variety of money, by way of fact they sell a brilliant variety of gasoline. no longer by way of fact they make lots on each and each gallon.

Regular.

Super and Premium is for older cars that need the higher octane usually associated with a carburetor.
New cars DO NOT need it. So people that use it in newer cars 1998 and up are just wasting their money.
