No it is not pointless, but it is usually counterproductive.
If you try to control somebody else's behavior and you have a reason to do so, then your attempt has a point!
And yes you can control people. But how well it works in the long run is another matter. For one thing, is the control for selfish reasons, or not?
Parents control their kids' behavior a lot. Bosses control employees' behavior. Advertizing controls behavior.
The best way to get control over your outer circumstances though, including other people, is to control yourself. The more you control your own thoughts, feelings and actions the more control you AUTOMATICALLY have over others. Be ethical, and it will be constructive and productive.

I'd try not to stress about it too much. If you really want someone to change, suggest something in a non-offensive way, bring up an example or something like that. If they don't change after some time passes, I'd step back from that relationship and focus on you. We become like those we hang out with. Life is hard enough, so don't worry too much about others. Focus on you becoming a better person or staying/become the person you feel you should be

Yes. This is where the saying, "Love will follow" applies.
Rules are similar to fences. You set it down and I will push it, test it, jump over it, poke a hole in it etc. Nature of the beast.
The beast will gnash and yowl and fight the fence until it damages or kills itself doing it. Why? It is the nature of the beast.
Love on the other hand, is an easy master.
When you give away freedom, the beast really doesnt want it.
It wants the safety of its cave , the cookies baking in the oven, the comfort of its bed, and the prescence of its pack.
Live and let live. is the best way.

No, it is not pointless. For a society to function there must be order. That involves everything from laws against theft and murder to etiquette and manners.
Where we get into problems is in agreeing on the finer points of it all. The line of acceptable behavior changes with time and location, and even ones stage in their life.

you can only tell people how they act, most people don't actually know and the best way to see yourself is through the eyes of someone you trust. but If your thinking of trying to control someones behavior, you'd have to ask yourself, is your life so perfect, your intentions so clear and your heart so pure that you can show people the right way? chances are, NO!

You can only control your own behavior and try to be the best person you can be.
You cannot control the behavior of other people. They are accountable to themselves and to God.
May God bless you.

You can't control people.
You can be a good example. You do what's right regardless of what others do. This is the strongest influence you can have on someone. It can reach hearts.

It is not a recommended practice to [attempt to] control others. Influencing others, through various forms of suggestion and positive reinforcement, may be more beneficial.

Praise and social acceptance are good motivations. We all love praise and we all want to be accepted as part of society. Start at infancy and don't stop.
