it means mob rule..a whole load of people following uninstructed without trying to understand why and where ..can be misled on a large scale..e,g,the Germans following Hitler wholesale without seeing the consequences of their actions....
You can fool some of the people all of the time ,and all of the people some of the time . but you can't fool all of the people all of the time..

Speaking of books, the quote is from Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter", and continues as follows:
"When, however, it forms its judgment, as it usually does, on the intuitions of its great and warm heart, the conclusions thus attained are often so profound and so unerring, as to possess the character of truths supernaturally revealed."
I would disagree, since one's heart oft times misleads!
For example: a single cookie may be a small thing,
and one may wish to devour it with all one's heart,
but in that cookie doth lay a promise of vast calories
upon the calorie conscious among us. ;)
In other words, contrary to what Mr. Hawthorne wrote,
both the eyes and heart may mislead!
To put it more simply: Don't judge a book by its cover.
I hope this helps your book report!
(make sure to add me to your list of references!) ;)

when people see things and percieve them as face value, (example if someone thinks they are witnessing one thing but really something completely different is going on) than these types of people will more than likely be decieved 9 times out of 10. they only see with their eyes, not their brains.....I think this is what this mean......bki

*When the person is determined only to see one thing or convinced that there is only one outcome than whatever outcome it is will be construed into what its really not.
