What I mean is this:
When first coming out of the closet, a GLBT person may feel sensitive and vulnerable when confronted with the harassment of straight people and right winged fundamentalists.
Then, as time goes on, that feeling changes to one possibly of anger, defensiveness, and "gung-ho" involvement in political activities and GLBT aweareness, becuase the GLBT person has gotten comfortable in their identity, but still wants to stop the harassment for their newly out GLBT community, becuase THEY have been there themselves.
Then, over time, as we get older and wiser, listening to the harassment and the homophobia, we just stop caring, because we don't want to feed the craved attention by the homophobes and harassers. Yet, when we get to this point, and stop "feeding" the behavior, then we get accused of having an 'attitude" if we just choose to ignore these people.

So..they don't want us to be sensitive and take things to heart, they dont want us to get angry and defensive and stand up for ourselves, and they don't want us to just go on with our own lives and ignore them either. What the hell DO they want?

Oh now, Riley, never lose hope and never stop caring for your fellow Human...or for your fellow Being for that matter. Once you do that then you've done exactly what the concrete wants you to -- you've become hard and stiff and unyeilding. If you want to be a father, my Dearest, you need to stay yeilding, even if we are LGBT.
Some people have the Attitude whther the were born with it or not. Some people cultivate it and some never get it. I don't want it (I can have one if I choose but it's a different on...I"m a MOM) You don't need it.
We are what we are. Love changes for good or for bad, the world changes us for the same. It's not *just* because we're LGBT, it's because we're Human.
Be Human and Live.
We love you. Love yourself. Let other people love themselves or not.

For me, I don't stop caring because there is so much to care for. I don't stop listening because every story is different yet similar at the same time and I don't stop hurting when confronted by homophobes. I don't stop sharing because my story is unique. Most importantly, I don't stop loving because this is who I am.

There are many people in the LGBTQ community who care, listen, hurt, share and love. There are many who have developed sarcasm and attitude because this is a way to defend themselves. This is not wrong because we do need to protect ourselves after all.

Maybe on the surface, we have toughened-up enough on the surface so we can actually ward off verbal attacks. Deep within, we all want acceptance. The callousness is just a defense mechanism.

I think that as life goes on, we just choose our battles more carefully. One gets tired of tilting at windmills after a while, and we save our energy for places where we can be effective.

I certainly don't fight EVERY battle any more, I leave some of them to the more energetic.

Ignoring and reporting trolls is the only thing that works against them, as it refuses to feed into their self-gratification. This is also preferred by Yahoo in some of their correspondences to me.

Some can call this an "attitude" if they want. I call it a smart choice.

What they want, of course, is for us to be just like them so they can be comfortable, and never have to deal with anything different.

You have just outlined the great catch22 of being gay now. We can either be out and demonstrating and be accused of "shoving our sexuality in their face", or we can be good quiet gays and they can continue to believe we don't exist.

Sadly, what they want is for GLBs to drop off the face of the earth. Don't live your life according to what they want. Just try to be the best person you can be as an individual.
