How does one find a agent to sell to companies your patent pending invention. Our patent attorney says he doesn't do that kind of thing. Neither my husband or I are good at writting business plans or sales. I know I can get a tecnical writer but we really need a agent to sell it.

It is hard to believe that your patent attorney does not know anyone. I would switch attorneys to a firm that has a more complete shop of services. The problem you will have is paying for the agent. They may want as much as 50% of the patent. If you go through a firm, it will be less. I would not use an agent that my attorney does not approve, since you will need IP aggreements and the like, even with the patent.

Another source you may try is the Tech Transfer office at a nearby Private college. Someone there may give you some names. At a state university, they would not. You can also look at patent applications from other people in your area. Some agents may be listed as co-owners. Look for company names.

Lastly, check the Yellow Pages for the nearest big city. The Raleigh, NC Yellow Pages has two listings for Patent Agents.

Start with the broader questions. What's the best way to get it known, manufactured, distributed, and marketed, in a way that protects your interests and intellectual property, and makes money for you? For some ideas, independent action or a new, independent company is the best choice. More likely, interesting an existing company already experienced in all those tasks is the effective route. Keep good records.
