Personally, I find the idea of killing an unborn child repugnant. Legal or not, I would try to dissuade a loved one from having an abortion. I have to admit though that I have less of a problem with removing a zygote (just a few cells stuck together) than I do with killing a fully developed fetus and pulling out bits and pieces of a real baby. I mean, why go through six or more months of the discomfort that comes with pregnancy only to kill the thing growing inside of you?

Philosophically, it comes down to the rights of the unborn child versus the rights of the mother. The first right to consider is a woman's right to control her own body. If the child was put there as a result of rape, the woman has every right to expel the intruder. I think it's best if she does it early. If the pregnancy threatens the mother's life, she has a right to defend herself by aborting the child. [I have great admiration for women who risk their lives and birth a child in spite of serious complications.]

However, if the the pregnancy is completely voluntary and poses little health risk to the mother, I feel that there is room for debate. I fall more on the side of allowing it to be legal but personally discouraging its practice. I do respect though, the arguments that strict pro-life people take on the matter. No life should ever be ended casually no matter the reason or circumstance.

I don't believe that the Republican party has any interest at all in banning abortion. They need abortion as an issue to win, and if it were banned they couldn't use it any more. The way I look at it, Republicans like abortion, so they attempt to stop birth control education for students. If they really were against abortion they would do everything in their power to stop unwanted pregnancies.

I am personally opposed to elective abortion. I think that there is enough birth control, including the morning after pill- but people need educated so the pregnancy doesn't happen in the first place. In a case where the mother and/or child is going to die that should be between the doctor and mother, not the government.

don't get pregnant in the first place and you won't have to worry about it. There are few cases where there is a need for an abortion, therefore most are just playing and having to pay the price. Not a good means of birth control. At least if the baby is given up for adoption it will have the chance for a life.

Doesn't freedom involve choice? And, since when does some block-head from wherever have enough knowledge of each situation to judge? Get real. 'Pro-life' ignores the actual fully developed life that already exists and thinks they are 'saving' something which only has the potential for life.
Look at the third wife of King Henry VIII. She went to church, prayed all the time but still died from childbirth. A few years later, the baby (well, now a child) died from some genetic problem no one knew anything about at the time.
There's also Hitler. His mom was a Catholic and was advised to have an abortion but being a good Catholic girl, she went ahead with the whole thing, despite the fact that the father was her cousin and abusive.
Shees. 'Pro-life' is a silly option since there are always exceptions in pregnancy.
I'll leave the medical and rape arguments to other posts.

Anywhere on this planet you find any cell that has 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total), it is human, period. It may resemble other mammals up to a certain point in developement, but at a cellular level, it is unarguably human, and should be treated with the respect and reverance we most often give to human life.

I think they should have spent 10 cents on some contraceptives.

However, abortion should be an option because ppl are sometimes forced into these situations when they didn't want to be.

If you think that you cant handle a child in your life then stop that child from going through life being unwanted. Have an abortion when needed but birth control should be your first option.

Why doesn't the father have any say?

Abortion should never be used as a method of birth control. This is how we treat our kids, by killing the truley innocent.
