Bowzer from Sha Na Na sometime between 1993 and 1995. I was at the Street Rod Nationals (I can't remember whether I was in KY, NY, or OK) and he was a celebrity guest. I stood in line with my dad to get his autograph. I was the last one in line and when we got up there I shook his hand and my dad told him I watched his show every week and that it put me to sleep. My dad of course didn't mean it the way it sounded. He meant that I was little when I watched the show and I had trouble staying awake to watch it because it was on so late. Anyway, he laughed and said he was glad that I was a fan. The funny thing is, he was my first celebrity crush and I would have died if I met him back then!

Paul Newman....I had no idea who he was.
It was 1968 and Mr. Newman was campaigning for Rbt Kennedy. He was scheduled to speak at the local High School and had flown to my hometown. For some reason about half way there, he decided to walk.
Meanwhile, I, being in the 6th grade and a patrol guard had left the elementary school early so I could be at a busy intersection before the rest of the kids.
As I am walking down the street, a man walked up from behind me and asked; "young man, can you tell me where the High School is"? So, I told him. I remembering thinking at the time he looked like a guy in the movies I saw once, maybe Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, however, he had the bluest eyes I had ever seen. Remarkably piercing.
That evening my mom asked my older brother why he was late getting home school. He said they had held them over because Paul Newman was late getting there. He said, "Paul Newman walked to the H.S. and had to ask some little kid how to get there......"
Know what? My brother still doesn't believe me.......

I met Dale Earnhart and Arnold Palmer when I lived in Orlando, Florida.
I was dating a guy who was a TV producer and he had to do a show on QVC with Dale and Good Morning America with Arnold Palmer. He invited me to go along. How could I say no?
He actually put me to work by doing a sound check. I had a microphone pinned to my shirt and an earphone in my ear and I had to count outloud so the sound engineers could adjust the volume and make sure everything was ready to go on the air live. When it was showtime, my bf took the microphone off my shirt and clipped it right onto their shirts. Ditto with the earpiece. Good thing I keep my ears clean!
Arnold thanked me for warming up his chair and while he was on the air, I talked to his wife and nephew who came along to watch.
The QVC thing with Dale Earnhart was in a studio and the show lasted for about 2 hours. When Dale wasn't on the air, we all chatted because it was only the 3 of us in the studio.
He was such a nice guy! Down to earth and friendly. He autographed a magazine and a trading card for me that I gave to my father and brother. I was't star struck since I'm not a fan of Nascar. I also met Jack Hanna at Sea World when they opened their Wild Arctic exhibits which included polar bears and beluga whales. That show was also on Good Morning America. He's very friendly and down to earth too.
And I shook hands with President Bush when he did a Town Hall meeting also in Orlando in December 2001. I didn't get to talk to him but man was I star struck!

Boyzone - boyband of the 90's. I was plucked out of the audience to go on stage with them.
Tommy Burns - when he was Cetic manager. Met him twice actually, once in Glasgow and once in Amsterdam. Got his autograph both times.
Bertie Auld -one of Celtic's Lisbon Lions side of 1967. Met him in a bar in Glasgow.
Craig Brown - '93-'02 Scotland manager. Was waitressing his table at a function for football officials.
Paul McStay - Celtic/Scotland player in the 80's/90's. Met him in Glasgow. Got his autograph and a photo.
Quite a few footballers in there for some reason...I'm not even that into my sport!
Almost forgot a couple of others -
Dolores Keane - Irish singer. Served her in a bar I worked in. She drinks Gin and Tonic! I was playing one of her CDs in the bar when she came in, it was quite embarrassing actually!
Leo Moran - From the Irish group The Saw Doctors. Served him in the same bar.

The England Rugby team while they were at Lympstone in 2000.
I spoke to Jonny Wilkinson and I got Martin Johnson and Lawrence Dallaglio's autograph's.
I wanted them for my dad, so I gave his name and they thought I was called his name... Doh
I was too star struck to correct them, totally in awe, they were there for a week and they are huge.
Not great on the Endurance and Tarzan/assault course though (different kind of fitness) so I felt a bit better.

I've met quite a few celebrities, but the nicest celeb I've ever met was "Weird Al" Yankovic. He signed every autograph and answered every question, he stood there for an hour with his fans...he really treats his fans with respect. I don't get star struck, they're just people.

Nelson mandella. Got to talk with him for 5 minutes. He was not president of south africa yet. It was a few months before he became president. He had just been released from robin island by de klerk. Aparteid was about to end. Met him as he stepped out of his private jet. My dad used to own a plane we'd fly for fun.
