Completely unecessary. If they had to stop him they could have used physical restraint. Someone should never use a Taser with a child close. I don't usually like to second guess, but anyone with any training or in their right mind knows you wouldn't Taser someone with a baby in their arms. Electrical current does travel from person to person. Sorry, but the person that gives a thumbs down to this is ridiculous.

I understand the necessity of keeping the baby in the hospital (what with all the babies that get stolen by family members, as well as strangers,) but I definitely think that stunning the father while he was holding the child was stupid. There is no excuse for putting the child in danger like that without there being an immediate threat that the father was going to harm it. The fall could have killed the child. There had to be something else that could have been done. It seems to me that the guard was just impatient and unwilling to take the time necessary to talk the father out of leaving, or even to get someone else who could talk dad down.

Absolutely not. The guard should have used his brains before even THINKING of using a taser gun in the hospital (guess he thought that if the guy had a heart attack, he'd get immediate help). According to a similar article I googled (attached), there was another guard there - why didn't he have the brains to be near the baby when his partner tasered the father?

Tasers are for extreme circumstances only and he put the baby in extreme and immediate danger by using it - what if the father had moved suddenly and he'd tasered the baby (yes - the child would be dead).

I agree with you - this was absolutely unnecessary. The two security guards could have easily overpowered the father and the baby would not be in the terrible state she is now.

It was very unfortunate that this happened and it shouldn't of happened. However, the man shouldn't of tried to walk out with the baby. He should of reported whatever mistreatment experienced by hospital staff to their superiors or try to resolve it another way rather than walking out of the hospital with the newborn baby. Because of the fathers choice of action, here are the consequences they are now facing...CPS has custody of the baby, the father was stung with a taser, both parents will be going home without their baby and now they'll have a battle to fight with CPS...Maybe it was good that CPS took the baby since there was a history of domestic violence. Could of saved the baby's life from getting caught in the midle of any future domestic violence

Wow. That security gaurd took it to the extreme. Unfortunately, he was probably thinking about the safety of the infant if it got outside of the building than the safety of the infant if he tasered the man holding the infant.

People have dropped their babies before. I cannot say that the security gaurds actions were necessary, that story was a little quite disturbing!

Very unnecessary to do that. I understand that he and his girlfriend had a history of domestic violence, but they should have made sure that baby was out of his arms before they tasered him.
They should have treated it as if the baby was held hostage and let him leave with the infant. Then, they should have gotten the police to wait for him at his residence where they would have arrested him, the woman and then take the baby out and back to the hospital to check if she was alright. But to taser a man with a baby in his arms.....I hope that security guy loses his job or something.

I think there must have been a better way to stop the Father without putting the baby at risk but the Father does sound abusive and if the baby was kidnapped by him the baby may have suffered years of abuse without it's mother.

It's a very sad story I hope the baby is OK. Also how sad is it that so many baby get taken that mothers and fathers have to wear security arm bands.

There are some people out there who should be put into any position of power. Some people just do not have the mental capacity to handle it. According to what I read, the man and baby were not going anywhere. The security had sealed the elevator. It does not sound like the baby was in any danger.

too many officers are being trigger happy with tazers lately. sure, it is better than a bullet, but these officers need to learn some serious restraint when using these weappons. necessary in this situation? i think not. with all the security in the hospital, it would have been a lot easier to lock down the floor, than to put a child in danger.

Sad to say it probably was necessary although very unfortunate. The family had a history of domestic violence and the father was trying to escape with the child. CPS stated the child had no serious injuries and it probably saved the child from being eventually beaten to death by the parents.
