I have a baby nearly 6 months old, just wondering when he can start eating yogurts.

I would say 6 months is good. But only start with plain yogurt to see how he handles it. Don't do strawberry or anything as that can have a higher risk of allergies. I did plain yogurt and peach yogurt with my babies first because I already knew they weren't allergic to peaches.

Babies can begin to eat yogurt about 8 months old. For infants and toddlers, full-fat yogurt is recommended because the fat is important to growth and development, especially for the brain. You can buy yogurt made for babies (such as Yo-Baby brand), but it is more pricey. Even though most adults find plain yogurt bad tasting, babies haven't developed the taste for very sweet flavored yogurts (along with their high sugar content) and are very happy with plain yogurt with maybe some mashed banana or baby food fruit mixed with it. Read the labels of yogurt carefully as some are low in nutrients, high in sugar, and not as nutritious as you might think.

it really depends on your doctor what answer you'll get. it also depends on if your family has a history of dairy allergies, since yogurt is made from cows milk. if the risk of allergies is low - most will give the ok to start at 6 months. just start slowing and watch for adverse reactions. other doctors will tell you wait somewhere between 6 months up to one year if there is a high chance of dairy allergies.

Yogurt - you can start now! My kids started at around 4 or 5 months - no problem.

Assuming there's not a dairy allergy or sensitivity, you can do it now. It's much easier to digest than milk or soft cheese. And it's one of the healthier forms of dairy. Especially if you use organic yogurt with live cultures.

6 months sounds about right - it was one of each of my kids' first foods. Pretty good if you mix plain yogurt in equal parts with mashed bananas or apricots, too.
