I keep hearing that medical schools don't like community colleges. is it true?
I would take the pre- med classes at a university after I transfer but the program I want to get in requires several classes that are pre- med requirements.
I have to take
principle of biology 1&2 with labs
chemistry 1&2 with labs
Calculus 1&2
English 1&2
Physics
organic Chemistry 1&2
I want to get in microbiology combined undergraduate and masters ( non thesis)
I did not get in to the school I wanted to so I decided to go to a CC... My counselor thought it was a good idea but now every one keeps saying that I am screwed.
Is it true? what should I do?
for the fall semester I am taking
Principle of biology one and lab
Chemistry and lab
College algebra
Composition one
I also work at a pharmacy. ( would that count as a positive?)
I also have over 300 volunteer hours at our hospitals ER
and I know I can get excellent recommendation letters both from the pharmacy and the volunteer office.

No, you are not doomed. You should know that these days, medical schools are really looking for the more well-rounded applicant. Many students start at CC and later transfer for major universities. There are many factors which play a role in admissions. You choice of college is only one. I won't lie to you and say that you will look as competitive as someone who went to an IVY League school for all four years, but there are other things that can pull you up. For example, an above-average score on you MCATs the first time, good reference letters, community service, and the ability to maintain a 3.7 or so GPA while working or volunteering. Also, today's applicants are not only science majors--there are many liberal arts majors that do very well in the applications process. I wish you good luck in your undertaking. It is a long road but worth it in the end. You will make a good living, be held in high regard in your community, serve the public, and be in a recession-proof industry. Good Luck

Untrue.
If you keep your grades up and transfer to a larger university to get your undergrad in pre-med, then no one is going to fault you.
Medical school doesn't just look at where you go. It's important, but if you went to Harvard and barely had a C average, it's not going to look too impressive. Your volunteering AND your work at a pharmacy are incredible.

I agree with abbacoz. CC is not a death sentence, but you need to keep your GPA high both there and for your BS, make significant contact with the professors so they'll know you when it comes time for lettrs of recommendation, do significant volunteering and get yourself a research internship for at least one summer.

I think medical schools dont like community colleges since they are 2 year colleges. U need like more credits and experience and stuff. My bro and sis know a lot about this stuff. However, ur not screwed, u can still go to a 4 year college, and earn credits there. Good Luck!
