I'm looking for a song to perform, and I've got a bass/low baritone range. I am having quite a bit of trouble finding a good song, so I figured I would ask. It has to be from a stage musical. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

How about:

Make Them Hear You - Ragtime
Suppertime - Little Shop of Horrors
I Feel Like I'm Not Out of Bed Yet - On The Town
As Good As You - Jane Eyre
Be Like The Bluebird - Anything Goes
If I Can't Love Her - Beauty and the Beast
This Nearly Was Mine - South Pacific
Music of the Night - Phantom of the Opera
Empty Chairs At Empty Tables - Les Miserables
Once In Love With Amy - Where's Charley?
There is a Sucker Born Ev'ry Minute - Barnum
It's A Fish - The Apple Tree

Some might be a bit too high, but I put them because they are labeled tenor to baritone.

Break a leg!

Low Baritone Songs

Do you know your vocal range (high and low note)?? If you do, then you either find a song written in that range (which there aren't many specifically for basses in the lead), or adapt one into that range. I'm a baritone who sings low F to E above middle C (can reach the F if I really practice). Most guy songs are written for tenors, so I usually just change the key into my range. Of course, it helps that I'm also a musician and can do that myself.

Go to the music store and get "The First Book of Broadway Solos - Baritone". (They also publish an edition for Tenors, Mezzos and Sopranos.)

The link below shows the table of contents. Any of these songs would be ideal for your performance.

Warning: Don't sing these songs too slow during an audition! Don't be afraid to speed them up just a tad.

"This Jesus Must Die" - Jesus Christ Superstar - Ciaphus

"Old Man River" - Show Boat

"Kiss The Girl" - The Little Mermaid

"Be Prepared" - The Lion King (hell, if Jeremy Irons can sing it!)

Here's a few that come to mind:

* "Old Man River" from 'Show Boat'
* "Lonely Room" from 'Oklahoma!'
* "Some Enchanted Evening" & "This Nearly Was Mine" from 'South Pacific'
* "The Impossible Dream" from 'Man of La Mancha'
* "Try to Remember" from 'The Fantastiks'
* "Where is the Life that Late I Led" from 'Kiss Me, Kate' (there are a few others from that show which might also be in your voice range)

You can get books & anthologies of show tunes specific to your voice part. Take a look on Amazon (you can view the table of contents): http://www.amazon.com/Singers-Musical-Theatre-Anthology-Songbooks/dp/0881885487

"Old Man River"
"They Call the Wind Maria"

I heard a bass sing "Dulcinea" once, and it was so beautiful that women were weeping all over the room.
