sure, i do when i can...
at an intersection i pass close to my work, everyday there are the same homeless people... they've been there for several years... they beg & bless every car that goes by them... lots of people stop & hand them money or food or bags of clothes, blankets & such... it makes me feel good to see that happen... but it like breaks my heart, that these people can't have a normal life - at least not live on the street...

Yes I have given money before. The person may or may not use it for booze, the point is that once I give it to him it is no longer mine. It is then his to spend as he wishes.
If a giver is worried about how the homeless person will spend the money, then give the homeless a hot meal, a sandwich or the like.

I give thousands to the homeless and less fortunate. Only problem it's with a tax collector's gun to my head. We are denied the good feeling we deserve to be getting for giving the fruits of our hard work to others because it is mandatory.
Would I give money to a pan handler on the street?....NEVER. It is a disgrace that they are dumped on the sidewalks of our cities and sully our day with their tawdry presence. They are the insane and the addicted, sometimes dangerous to themselves and others and should be forced to live a supervised life for their own good.
Anyone who gives money to these people are enabling addiction, and shouldn't be giving yourselves a pat on the back, you are just a necessary link in a chain that ends up at a dealer or a bottle. You are helping a weak person destroy himself. If you want to give, you owe it to the deserving poor to do your homework and find someone truly deserving. Only then have you earned the right to feel you have helped your fellow man.

Whatever it is, follow your heart. If you think that he/she needs the money, give it then. If not, it's ok. There are lots of people who are not homeless that beg on the street and it's becoming very common now. That's why not many people will give the money.
To me, money may make the world go round, but not everyone is fortunate like us. Some are computer illiterates as they can't even afford to buy a set of computer. I will give them the money and hope that they will not abuse the kindness we gave them.
Cheers :)

I live in the Phoenix area and around here they ALL use it for drugs or booze:) I used to give money to them, but so many times I have seen them go in and buy beer and that is not right. I have 4 kids and not alot of money and I personally cant afford to take my chances and "give" a homeless person money to buy bad things when I could spend that money on my kids!!!!! All I have to say is get a job!!!!!!!!!! When I see them standing by the freeway ramp, I lock my doors:)

I was in NYCity when I saw this begger packing up for the day. I followed him on a hunch, and saw him get into a better car than I could afford. Thats when I stopped giving to them. If they need help, I give them a card with the address of the weifare office. You would be surprised how many of those cards were on the street.

I assume nothing about a person who is homeless, except the fact that he or she is homeless. I always give to the homeless people. and feel sorry for them.

I usually give them like 3 bucks or so. Even if they want it for drugs you will be rewarded later in life.
