I keep seeing in stores the type of drapes that just are on the rods that slide back and forth (like a shower curtain). I have an extremely large window treatment in my living/dining room and wondering if I should replace it with the rod system.

It seems to be a cheaper and easier do-it-yourself solution (I originally had my existing curtains custom-made years ago -- $$$$!), but I don't know if it is appropriate. I don't want to look cheap or take away from the rest of the room. The window is definitely one of the focal points of the house and want to match its "grandness" with the right treatment.

I think that you are referring to "Draw Drapes". I don't believe that they are out of style either. The drapes themselves are pinch pleated which really looks demur and graceful. You can get these drapes in many styles, fabrics and types, like insulated or non-insulated. They really look nice with sheers behind them too which just takes a second "regular" curtain rod placed behind the draw drape rods. It sounds like the windows you have would benefit from the richness of the draw type draperies.

I also have not seen the draw drapes in quite some time so you may have to do custom again. If the window is such a focal point, it would be better to have someone help you make the right decision rather than trying for a quick fix. Check again with the drapery departments in major department stores or hire a designer.

i always thought they were a great idea, but i took the ones out of my house when i moved in cause- ya for most styles- they are out of style. i was going for more of a contemporary look, but if you have a older/antique design to your house- i would keep em!! im sure sooner or later like everything else- the style will come back.
