NO!! it should stay at 21, the age for a driving permit should be raised to 18 and a license at 21 if they have paid their own insurance and not gotten in any accidents or arrested.

They have shown that some young men are still growing at age 18. Science shows that while in puberty the body actually grows faster than the brain. Therefore, kids of a certain age make a lot of snap judgments, led by their hormones, without thinking things thru.
I think kids shouldn't be allowed to join the military until they're 21. Young people make a lot of impetuous decisions when your young and joining the military is a dangerous thing and not to be taken lightly. So leave the drinking age at 21 and change the minimum required age to enter the military. I would also raise the driving age to 17 as more teenagers are in deadly crashes than any other group.

see now that is a tough question. in a way yes, i think that it should be lowered. you can buy cigarettes at the age of 18 and create early health problems so why not buy beer and liquir as well. although, on the other hand, many people at the age of 18 are not mature enough yet and maybe havent experienced life yet and do not know how to handle the repsonsibilities that go with drinking. on the same token, i know people who are in their 20's,30's and 40's that still havent learned that lesson. so overall, i would say leave the drinking age right where it is at. there are many more important issues americans hae t worry about than that. (no offense to your question, good question)

I absolutely think that the drinking age should be lowered. At 18 years old you can fight for our country and you have the possibility of losing your life, BUT you can't have a beer? Seems a bit absurd to me. I also think that if we as a nation didn't make SUCH a big deal about drinking that it wouldn't pose such big problems. Look at foreign countries where drinking wine with dinner is a common thing... Even for children. Those countries have far less problems than we do here in America.

I get the whole military argument, but the drinking age is more to protect people's livers. Livers aren't mature until about when a person is 21. But I learned that in school, so it may not be 100% true. The 18 year olds at my school are not at all mature enough to handle the responsibility of alcohol. The ones who want to drink already do. Truth is, they probably aren't mature enough for the military either, but hey, what are you going to do?

I was lowered to 18 during the Viet Nam war. (conscription, aka the draft) Today's military have chosen to enlist. The reasoning being that if the government can send you to fight and possibly die for your country, they could at least let you have a beer first. Lowering the drinking age will only increase traffic fatalities.

I believe that society should end the double-standards altogether.
I believe we should take an inventory and cast a vote as to whether someone is a child or an adult.
Pick an age and leave it there forever.
Here's how I see it:
If you charge a 14 year-old as an adult for committing a crime then you should consider him an adult in every other way, shape and form regardless of what it is.
Following that you should treat every other 14 year-old as an adult in every way, shape and form as well...
Period.
Either they're considered children, or they're considered adults.
No exceptions.

a lot of countries around the world have a drinking age of 18. the only thing it would do is cause the dui rate to skyrocket, meaning there will be more drunk drivers on the roads than we currently have. I am in support of prohibition.....

It shud not be lowered. Its not like a switch where ure brains suddenly become more powerful and sharp. By 21 perhaps there is more settlement with respect to decision making.
