They retired #8 twice, because it had been worn by both Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey. They decided to retire it in 1972 to honor both of them.

Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey both wore number 8.

So in 1972 they decided to retire both of their numbers.

So one 8 is for Berra one is for Dickey.

You cant put them in a video game though, they dont play the game of baseball still!

dickey played a generation before berra but both were equally as great and equally important to the yankee dynasty. they didnt start retiring numbers until after their careers ended. It would be wrong not to retire 8 twice. thanks for clearing up the whole maris mantle thing.. i thought you meant mickey rivers and niles' wife maris from frasier. lol

don't know the answer to the first question sorry but as for maris and mantle it's possible the families were asking too much money to use there images like in all star footbal 2k8 (i think thats it with all the old guys like barry sanders and such) they don't bo jackson in it b/c he wanted too much money

Why do some people make such a big deal out of this stupid sports sh1t? 100 years from now nobody will give a crap about who Micky Mantle was. We're all going to be rotting piles of worm infested flesh.
