Shows like Naruto, Full Metal, Bleach, and InuYasha have taken center stage in the past few years. So many people claim these are the best anime series, but I can't agree. The only people I see calling these shows the best probably did not watch Toonami back when they had shows like Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Rurouni Kenshin (when Toonami was THE cartoon block to watch during the week), and when Adult Swim had Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and a few others.

All I want to know is... What happened? Why so much bandwagon jumping with these shows? They obviously pale in comparison to anime from the 90s. Those older shows defined what anime is.

Also, Dragonball Z when they had the Ocean dub was classic. If you don't even know about Ocean, I think you're probably too young to understand this.

I agree with the setiment that Cartoon Network isn't showing great anime like they had in the past, but this is more of a reflection of Cartoon Network rather than anime in general.

But with titles like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Death Note that we saw at the end of last year, and fantastic series like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Claymore, and Darker Than Black (along with a myriad of many more great hits) being aired right now, I can't agree that anime now pales in comparison to the 90's.

Cartoon Network just needs to start showing some good shows again.

I really like Naruto alot. It's great but I don't think it's the best anime out there. Well maybe anime-wise it is but manga-wise I have a different favorite.

i think it really depends on the people running that tv station. they are the ones who pick what gets shown. if you go to Japan, they have great animes running all the time. but here on tv, they have to edit out scenes, making good animes all crappy to begin with. if you want the real thing, go to a con and see what is out there. :P
