From the movie's Wikipedia article:
'The film was billed as "inspired by true events"; Eli Roth claimed to have read about poverty stricken individuals in Thailand who would sell "members of their family to organized crime, then American and European businessmen would pay $10,000 to walk in a room and shoot them in the head." '
Whether the accounts Roth claimed to have read were true, I don't know.

RE:
The movie Hostel was based in part on actual events?????
I was just reading a description of the movie Hostel on Netflix, and it says:
"Quentin Tarantino presents this grisly tale based in part on actual events, directed by Eli Roth"
What in the world "actual events" was this movie partly based on?

Although plausible, I *highly* doubt that those events were real.
Contrary to most sequels, Hostel II was *better* than the first one.

i think actual events because this kind of things happen in other low key countries. murder for profit, prositiuting(everywhere as we know), gambling, or hitmen.
i tell you what though this movie is making me super aware now..when you go to a new country for vacation, and some supermodel is reallyyyyyyyyyy into you.......i will be super cautious!
