Ferrets are NOT rodents. Before you buy a ferret, the biggest thing you need to know is that they are VERY expensive to keep and PROPERLY care for. They require regular vet care and very costly health issues are very common. Also, they are not meant to be caged animals. People who cage them do it for their convenience and safety of the ferret because their house is not ferret proofed. We have 5 ferrets along with many other animals. We do not cage our ferrets at all. As far as getting them fixed, they are already fixed and descented when you get them. I would consider adopting a ferret from a local shelter. There are many that need forever homes. If you have not been around them very much, first go volunteer at a shelter before you buy one. They are smarter than cats and dogs and can get in alot of trouble if your area is not ready for them. They are NOT meant to stay in a cage, the bare minimum of time out of the cage EVERY DAY is atleast 4-5 hours to maintain healty and happy ferrets. They require lots of interaction and prefer to be in atleast pairs if not more.
However, girls are cleaner and smaller than the boys are. Their plumbing is a bit different and tend to use the litter boxes more. You must have several corner litter boxes. They are wonderful animals, but if you are gone all the time and don't have alot of money available to care for them as needed, consider something else. Average vet bills for ferrets is a few hundred dollars to thousands for long term care.
PS, buy the book, "ferrets for dummies", it is a good place to start.
Good luck.

Be sure nobody in the house is allergic to rodents, a ferret is a type of rodent. Let it out of its cage every one and a while but only in a room, don't let it wander around the house. Make sure it always has food and water.
If you ferret starts to shed too much or sneeze a lot, try changing the bedding you use for its cage.

Ferrets do have a smell to them... yet whilst certainly everyone seems to be washing them to do away with the smell... you certainly shouldn't wash them... I han't easily washed my ferrets in over 7 months and there is entirely a easy oder... the explanation why they smell extra in case you wash them extra is by technique of the fact once you wash off the oil their physique is going into overpersistent to reprode the oil that desires to be on their fur... whilst that occurs they smell... None of my ferrets chew... in the event that they do chew then you certainly could desire to yell no at them very and be stern approximately. Then punish them by employing putting them interior the cage or carry scruff them... additionally do no longer use your palms to play with them that's what teaches them it is very properly to chew. the extra severe that my ferrets have ever completed is nip. Ferrets additionally are clutter trainable. Mine make it in to the container approximately seventy 5% of the time they're actaully very sparkling and could purely pass in one courner that they designate. All you are going to be able to desire to do is positioned a clutter container there any thats the place they'll pass. different then that... the only element that maximum high-quality dislikeable is they're very cerious little carpet sharks and can get in to any element that has an beginning later then a 0.5 greenback. (American 0.5 greenback), you Do could desire to bathe on a daily basis, and you may commit a minimum of four hours to play everynight. Ferrets are incredible companions and in case you will get previous those few issues they're super destressers and could love you to dying!
