If you have any critical informaion on your computer, back it up.

Many things can cause this.

Bad memory module, Hard drive failing, over heating, bad power supply and so on.

You could have 1 or more bad memory modules.

Remove one memory module at a time and run your computer with the remaing 3 modules. If you find your computer runs without freezing, the memory module removed is defective.

If this does not correct the problem, repeat by removing 2 modules at a time.

You can download hard drive diagnostics from the hard drive's manufacture web site. Caution; read the information about the diagnostic applications. Some will destroy info on the hard drive. Do this and run the diagnostics numerous times.

Make sure all your ventilation ports are clear of dust, obstructions, etc. Make certain that all the fans are operating correctly.

Start your computer and go into the dagnostics and monitor (watch it) the power supply voltages for at least 1/2 hour if you can.

If their is a low voltage, it will show usually in red. This is a more common problem than most realize. A brand new system and.or power supply can be defective.

Check your motherboard for defective capacitors (they look like small cans). The tops of these capacitors should be flat. If any of them look bulged out even slightly or appear discoloured, it is failing.

I forgot to mention the capacitors can leak out the bottom

Here is a link with pictures of one type of capacitors - shows good one and bad ones.

The motherboard should be covered under warranty.

Check if there are any diagnostics for your motherboard. If there are any, download them and read the info carefully - run them.

These are a few common problems to check and eliminate.

Good Luck

That is sad.

Ran fine when it had XP, and yet for some reason you ran out and paid Uncle Bill a bunch of cash for an O/S that does absolutely nothing (essential) that XP can't.

I've been pretty happy with Vista on my new laptop - but it came installed, and I was ready to format it and put XP on it if it gave me any crap - so far, so good.

If you installed Vista over XP as an 'upgrade' then god help you. If you are really determined to use Vista, you might want to format and do a clean load, but there is no reason whatsoever to have it on your machine, which could be running much faster on XP.

Good luck.

Did you purchase the 64 bit edition of Vista for this? This sounds like you have an OS that is incompatible with your 32 bit CPU. You need to make sure your CPU is 64 bit and not 32 bit. That is why you may be having issues...

Good luck

Viruses can easily reason that and a number of of alternative issues. If an enemy of yours sat down at your pc and tried their maximum suitable to smash it, viruses can try this and much extra. even with the incontrovertible fact that, i do no longer think it relatively is an outbreak on your case. What you defined is a classic symptom of overheating. whilst it is going off and you attempt to in the present day restart it, does it in simple terms stay to tell the story for a minute or 2 (even perhaps much less) and then close good back off back? And in case you pass away it off for a whilst, say, quarter-hour or so and it cools down, does it artwork for a speedy time longer than it did in the past? There are basic methods and not basic the thank you to aim to repair this, commencing from blowing compressed air into the followers or vents, all a thank you to taking it to a working laptop or pc shop and allowing them to sparkling it out and/or replace any followers, etc. that may no longer be working good. .
