Write to watchdog and expose the company who did this.

I work for a Travel agency and we aim to save money for every one of our customers - its our job!!!

I hope you get it sorted out :D

First of all, let me tell you that I am sorry you had this experience, but it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you have all the valid documentation required for travel. It is impossible for an internet website like Expedia to know all the requirements for all the different passport holders for all countries. Tickets bought on Expedia are almost 100% discounted (not full fare) and therefore most, if not all, of their tickets are non-refundable. There is a possibility that Copa should not have allowed you to board the flight in the first place. It is highly likely that Copa had to foot the bill for your return on their first available flight, and they are also likely to have to pay a fine to the Panamanian authorities. However, this does not mean that they owe you any sort of compensation. It is VERY important to read the fine print when booking tickets. By booking and paying for your ticket you agreed to the terms and conditions. In those terms and conditions it stated that you, the traveller, is responsible for ensuring you have all the necessary travel documents. Neither Expedia, nor the airline, can be responsible for this, and this clause is included in all sales of airline tickets. Most countries require you to have at least 3 months validity remaining on your passport from the date you intend to leave the country. Many countries even require 6 months validity. Each country set their own requirements as to what is required. South Africa, for instance, requires you to have two adjacent empty pages in your passport. You will not be able to sue anyone for this. No court would even accept the case. Next time make sure you check up on what requirements that apply to you before you travel.

I wrote a letter to Delta and they only gave me back $100 of the the $600 I spent on a plane ticket when my flight was canceled TWO TIMES for NO reason, I ended up taking a different airline and spending 8 hours in Memphis and missing my finals because I came home almost two days after I was supposed to...

The letter said that the situation was not under their control...which is pretty good because the weather was perfect and THEY overbooked because it was spring break (not why I was there at the time)

Call their hotline and see who you can speak to and tell them the situation...then get an address to write a formal letter to as well...I plan on writing another letter because I'm so frustrated about the situation.

Big time by Alaska Air lines and Amtrack, however, I contacted Alaska then customer relations, then visa, got no satifaction until I contacted the U.S. department of transportation, they investigated, took about 6 weeks. To make a long story short, visa removed the charge and ALASKA sent me a free ticket with a one a year lee way and a very impressive apology.

I complained to Amtrak main headquarters. I didn't get my $ back , instead they gave me the same monetary value in rides on the super liner on bay area commuter train which I take quite alot. It pays to complain. Just have all your proof.

ALL transportation is governed by a STATE agency - check with your STATE agency governing officials, get connected with a rep, and file the proper complaint forms - - they are very helpful!
