Name him Theodore and call him Teddy instead. Theodore sounds dignified and isn't that common nowadays.

First of all, I don't seem to remember anyone in the Harry Potter books being named Teddy, but then again I haven't read all of them. Teddy is a very cute name, and if you're from New England it's one of the star players on the Patriots football team! I would name him Theodore but call him Teddy at home. It's a great childhood name, then we he gets older people can call him Theodore or Ted, which will make him sound mature and more dignified. And if he decides to carry the Teddy name to school, who knows, maybe kids will call him Teddy without teasing him and the name will just stick. It's a nice name because it's a bunch of different maturity levels all in one. Wonderful choice!

I think Teddy is adorable, and when he grows out of that, he can just go by Ted! Nothing wrong with that! Or if you're still apprehensive, you can just do what others have suggested and go with Theodore, then, he can still go by Ted and Teddy :) but for official documents and job resumes, it will look more sophisticated.

Although there's a chance he will end up being called Theo, but if that's okay with you too, then I would definitely recommend Theodore.

Good luck! Either way, Teddy's adorable!

I like the name Teddy because of what it means. Teddy is a variant form of Theobald (\the(o)-ba-ld\0 is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "brave people". Literary: the variant Tybalt is the name of an important character in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

And as he was growing up, I would tell him what his name means. And that people might make fun of his name but not to let that bother him because he is brave and that it is ok to be a "teddy bear" and a "brave" man at the same time.

It's a cute name. Your child will be taken seriously when he's older-people get used to the names of those around them, even if they sound funny at first.

If your son ever enters the corporate boardroom, if it'd make him more comfortable, he could always go by "Ted".
