I used to suffer from terrible cramps.
You might want to try some PMS tea. You can get it a the health food stores and it's an herbal tea that you are supposed to drink 5 days or so before the start of your period. It tastes gross, but it does help alleviate cramps.
You might also want to drink some pineapple juice. (fresh is best and if you have access to a juicer, you might want to juice it with the skin on). Pineapple contains a mineral called bromine. It naturally helps the bod rid itself of muscle cramps. It has worked wonders for me.
Finally, watch your diet. At least two weeks before hand, limit your consumption of salt and junk food in general. It only makes it worse. Decrease you intake of caffientated and carbonated beverages as well. Increase your consumption of water.
That is what I did when I was totally burned out with pills and the like. I hope some of this helps you!
:-)

Boots do their own range of heat pads. They really do work. They are cheap too so you wont be out of pocket. However if they are that bad maybe you should go to the doctors and ask him to put you on the pill.
My pains were bad and i tried two different types of pills. Now my doctors has given me ones that work wonderfully plus i take three packs at a time so i only have a period every three months ( heaven)

Ugh. I'm with you on this one girl! I like the heat wraps that you can wear for up to 8 hours. I wear them all day at work and they really do help dull the pain. Midol also helps.

Have you been checked for endometriosis? You could have that, I did and I had excruitiating cramps. Over the counter crap doesn't work, ask for heavier drugs from your doctor but the key is to see one. Your symptoms can be the sign of something more serious.
