I know that Def Lepard and Michael Damian both have versions of "Rock On" and I just Googled the song and it says that a David Essex has an original version.
"I Need a Lover" has versions by John Cougar Mellencamp and Pat Benatar. I Googled that song also.

John Cougar and Pat Benatar (separately) did "I Need a Lover."
John Cougar (Mellencamp) did it first on his "John Cougar" album recorded in 1978. Pat Benater covered it on her "In the Heat of the Night" album recorded in 1979.
"Rock On" was originally performed by David Essex in the 1970's. It was covered by a soap opera star - michael Damian in the 1980's.
