For every hour you spend in class, you should spend 2 hours studying. For example, you take a class, 1 hour a day, 3 days a week. You should study for 6 hours a week for that class.

Oh, and homework and studying are TOTALLY separate. Not a lot of college professors will give you nightly homework assignments. Most will tell you to read such and such chapters from your text for the next class. They usually WILL ask questions (especially as you get into upper-level, degree required courses). It WILL show in your tests if you don't read. There WILL be questions from the text. Maybe not as frequent in lower level (ie 1000 or 2000 level) courses. But in 3000-4000 (junior/senior, upper level courses) they will!

The general rule for real college work is 2-3 hours of study for every hour of class. Online colleges advertise that they are just as good as a regular school so it should not be different.

My college professors always told me you should spend four hours studying each week per credit hour. For example, if you're taking a class that's worth 3 credit hours, you'll need to study 12 hours a week for that class. It seems unrealistic, but it's always worked for me!! Just break it down a little bit each day, say study a little over an hour every day, and you'll be fine!

depending on the class... i have online homework assignments that were timed, on top of reading prior to that assignment, studying for tests, etc. Easily you can do a lot of studying to get things accomplished. Library became my best friend, cuz that's the only place i could go without distractions!

As much as necessary to get the work done.

You could easily spend several hours outside of class for each hour you spend in class.

it depends. some classes have a shitload of reading which can be alot of time spent like an english class or a history class or philospophy and some science classes have insane prelabs and other time consuming assisgnments but maybe about 45min-90min depending on the assignment.
