Even though Tolkien and Lewis taght at the same school, Tolkien is better. His Lord of The Rings series is longer, more discriptive, and has more difficult vocabulary. It also is a very exciting book and suprises happen.

Lewis's Narnia series is also very good.

I think Lewis because his book 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' has a godly message (Easter story) - however i think Tolkien book is a lot more detailed and intense to read which is a good thing. You always find something new when reading Tolkien and can read his books over and over again without getting bored. But Lewis is the better author because of what he writes and he is my fave author so i suppose i am liettle biased when it comes to this question.

Lewis! To be honest, I've never read any of Tolkien's work. I'm not huge into fantasy, but can take the Chronicles of Narnia. I also love Lewis' other stuff.

tolkien and lewis are two masters of fantasy fiction both are incomparable. both have written books which are really good and remained bestsellers till date . on some occasions tolkein is better and on others lewis. lewis though lays more emphasis on imagination as is evident from narnia and teribethia and on the other hand tolkeins work make you think that his imaginary places do exist.

They are both very good. I like them for different reasons. But I prefer Tolkien a tad more because he wrote the amazing LOTR.

they are both superb.
Tolkien's LOTR is incredible, and he created such an intricate world, and wrote so much about that world.
Lewis wrote a wider variety of things, including his bout Narnia, which was geared more toward kids, but it is still a rich tale.

trying to compare the two isn't really comparing apples and oranges....maybe more like navels and mandarins or something.....they are both excellent, and my taste may at times want one a little more than the other.

By what would you measure better?!
They were both masters of their craft.
My first love was CSLewis, so it is more of an emotional decision for me.
Reading each will give you new insights on life, the universe and everything in between!
