the X-600 is a generation ahead of the 9-550.
furthermore, it is the a level above (600 versus 500).
finally, as you can see for yourself from this web site
http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test/benchmark-results.html
that offers a video card performance meter tool (manufacturer independent), the X-600 achieves higher frame rates then any 9-500 or 9-550.

BUT: as another poster pointed out, the X-600 only comes as PCI-E card whereas the 9-550 only comes as AGP.
if you already have a PC, you have to buy the card which matches the video port, even though you may have some trouble finding a X-600, nowadays, if you have to go PCI-E; you may have to settle for a X1-650, which is the next generation following the X-600. If you have an AGP computer, you may still want to consider a X1-650, which comes as AGP as well.

if you are thinking about getting a new PC, make sure you buy one with PCI-E, as it is the PC port architecture of the next few years.

X600 Pro is better than the plain 9550 but comparable to the higher clocked 9550 EE or XT.

The 9550 is an AGP 4x/8x

The X600 is a PCI express.

That's the first difference - so depending on whether you already have a motherboard, or are going to be buying one - take this into account, otherwise you won't be able to plug it in.

The X600 is probably the better card, simply being PCI-E means it has a bigger pipe to dump stuff into.

X700 is a terrible gaming card. The 1300 could be greater useful yet could require an added capability connection. seem into the nvidea 6600 GT. it could be all the way down to that cost by potential of now.
