Take off the cover. Apply ant spray to area around the outlet. Replace cover. Spray the rest of the house. If you just spray that one area, it won't do any good. Your home needs to be treated. I use 'Bayer Home Pest Control', available at Lowe's or Home Depot, and it's great. It's about $30 per gallon, and a gallon lasts me about a year. I've never needed an exterminator. Good luck.

you can block the outlet but they'd find another way in. what are thye after? where do they go when they come in? Keep food put away and clean thoroughly. Try sprinkling boric acid in places to deter them- watch out for pets thought. Ants are a pain to get rid of. Try covering the outlet with clay or sticky tack or wax ear plugs. good luck

Sorry. I couldn't resist :) I wouldn't start spraying any chemicals into the outlet if I were you though. I would probably locate the source of them (ya know, their home) and then go from there. If nothing works, there's always the exterminator.

Dispatch a letter to their queen stating that continued advancement by her armies into your kitchen will be viewed as an act of aggression, and you will be forced to enter their colony in search of WMD's.
